Jukebox the Ghost front man and Louisville native Ben Thornewill returns to Headliners with the band Tuesday, March 1 at 8pm. With 1,000 shows under their belt over the course of 10 years, the trio has been to a lot of venues and cities, but Louisville always holds a special place for Ben. Some of his favorite haunts include the pinball machines at Zanzabar and Garage Bar, but nothing compares to his bed at home. “If I were visiting as a tourist I would be very different, but when I’m in Louisville I’m doing family stuff.”

Jukebox the Ghost ooze pop magic on their latest self-titled album with a handful of piano solo tracks crafted naturally from Ben, a classical pianist. But don’t expect to be lulled to sleep. The band will be spinning a Wheel of Fortune type wheel during their set filled with B-sides and outtakes they usually don’t perform. “When it lands on the song, ‘Hold It In’ we switch instruments we don’t know how to play and it’s terrible.” It may be terrible, but this is a great example of how the band continues to switch things up each tour while pleasing new and old fans alike.

The band's influences vary song by song, rather than an overarching theme. Jukebox the Ghost definitely shows signs of Ra Ra Riot in the drum patterns and electronic beats in “When The Nights Get Long,” and more pop lyrics and melodies to the likes of Relient K in the songs “Made for Ending” and “The One.” For this record, they wanted to make more of a pop record than before while “still maintaining our weirdness.”

A new studio album is in the works, as well as a live album recorded throughout the current tour. The Headliners audience can expect to hear at least one new song, and maybe their screaming expletive on the live record. Dream big!
