With the opening of baseball season a few weeks ago and as we get deeper into the game that made Ruth, Marris, and Bench a star it’s about time to look at how local Louisville Bats are doing with the Cincinnati Reds, keeping in mind that chances are a number of the Bats are destined for the pros in the near future, Yonder Alonso I’m looking in your direction.

Current Reds Bill Bray, Mike Leake (the 2009 College World Series pitcher), Sam LeCure, Matt Maloney, and Travis Wood were all in the Bats bullpen in 2009, prior to moving up to Great American Ballpark. A trek former Bat pitcher, Logan Ondrusek made a year prior. While Cuban defector and major current young gun for Cincinnati Aroldis Chapman played under the lights of Slugger Field in 2010.

Catcher Ryan Hanigan, Infielder Paul Janish, and First base slugger Joey Votto were all notable minor leaguers in Kentucky in 2007, before getting the call for the hometown of Major League baseball.

That same year after outfielder, Jay Bruce won the Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year award he was stolen from Louisville by Cincinnati as well. A fellow outfielder, Drew Stubbs found his way to the pros from Triple-A two years later after he was a star in the All-Star Futures game in 2009.
The current Bats take the field this weekend in a series against Indianapolis, beginning in an afternoon game on Saturday here in Louisville, prior to Thunder.

While the Reds set their sights on the Pirates at home this weekend in a series that starts off Friday evening and continues into Tuesday when the Arizona Diamondbacks come out to Ohio, a time when future Reds will also be in Ohio when they play Columbus at Columbus.

I guess, all that’s left to say is, “Play ball!”

    About Dave Rose

Recently, I completed a Masters degree in Education and have been writing for Louisville.com for over a year now, prior to that I published a humor book for young adults titled Wearing Socks with Sandals, a book about getting through high school, college, and all of the requisite problems that present themselves during that time. Currently, I spend much of my time in classroom settings as well as writing in various areas. Of course, I’m a big sports fan and love music and film, and love finding new stuff around Louisville.
