As we get started into the high school football season, I thought it would be appropriate to take a look at early season rankings of area schools statewide.
Of course, #2 in the state is none other than Trinity, despite losing a national landmark game in a narrow loss against a team out of Tennessee, Trinity as always, looks like a top tier team in not just the state but the country as a whole, in fact they are the 68th high school nationally.
Right behind Trinity in the area, is none other than St. X who is ranked 6th in the state, the Tigers currently have had one game and one victory, the same is true for #7 Pleasure Ridge Park, and #20 Male.
Right outside of Louisville, Shelbyville’s Collins High is ranked right below Male, despite their opening game loss, and following them is Male’s long time rival, Manual ranked 22nd in Kentucky.
Following them is #26 Butler, # 27 Central, and #31 Eastern, #42 goes into Oldham County, as South Oldham claimed that spot after their opening season victory.
Then we get back to Jefferson County with #43 with Ballard, who suffered a loss to St. X in their opening contest.
Going down the list #61 is Jeffersontown, #72 is another archdiocese school DeSales, #73 Western.
These teams are followed at # 77 with Christian Academy of Louisville, #81 Shelby County, #93 North Bullitt, and closing out the top 100 in the state #100 Bullitt Central.
Going into the three digit ranked teams we have #102 Doss, #110 Seneca, #114 Fern Creek, # 120 Kentucky Country Day, #142 Fairdale, #152 Valley, #157 Southern, #162 Iroquois, #165 Holy Cross, #172 Moore, #181 Waggener, #194 Atherton, and Shawnee rounds out the one hundreds for the area ranked at #199 in the state.
Of course, this early in the season these rankings really only let you know where teams are starting and there will be plenty of shifting as we get deeper into fall.
