The Speed Museum continues their on-going program of classic cinema, documentary, and avant-garde films co-curated by Willie Doherty and Ryan Daly. Cinematic Remembrance: Memory and the Movies explores the nature of memory and its representation in cinema. During the Free First Friday event on Nov. 4th, The Dead directed by John Huston and adapted from the short story by James Joyce will be shown. The film takes place in Dublin in 1904 at an Epiphany party held by two elderly sisters. The story focuses attention on the academic Gabriel Conroy (Donal McCann) and his discovery of his wife Gretta's (Anjelica Huston) memory of a deceased lover.

A lecture on the history of the Irish in Louisville by beloved historian and Metro Councilman Tom Owen will begin at 6 p.m. Tom Owen has a book series and walking tours of historic Louisville. His tours are featured on KET KY. For more information visit http://www.ket.org/tvschedules/series.php?id=KOWEN&layout=popup&framed=1 - more

    About Julie Gross

I’m originally from Ohio, but have been a Louisvillian for half my life. I divide my time between hubby, 3 kids, too many pets, and the 930 Art Center. When I'm not, you'll find me running the trails in Cherokee or Jefferson Memorial Forest.
