One Louisville business’ mission for sustainability has led them from Portland to a new store on Frankfurt Avenue. May 29, from 6 until 9 pm, Good Garbage Creative Reuse Center reopens their doors at 2216 Frankfort Avenue during the Frankfurt Avenue Trolley Hop.
Good Garbage, run by proprietor Lynn Quire aims to divert usable materials destined for landfills for use in classrooms or art studios. Items donated from the community will go towards the construction of imaginative, whimsical and practical constructions that will teach sustainability to children and adults alike. At their old location, Good Garbage reused 18,000 pounds of usable material and served 2,000 adults and students through workshops and community events.
“We are giving new life to normally recycled and tossed materials and opportunities for educators, students and artist all over Kentuckiana to creatively reuse these items,” Quire said. “This move is taking us to a more centralized location and allowing us to continue to serve everyone. Travelers from Indianapolis to Nashville to Cincinnati, have come to find out what Louisville’s Creative Reuse center is all about. We hope you check it out too.”
Good Garbage is also offering summer camps and workshops for all ages during the month of June. These camps will include mud paintings, found object collages, and sewing, culminating in a gallery showing during the June 26 FAT Trolley Hop. Additional information on the camps can be found here.
Later this month, Comfy Cow will be hosting a fundraiser for Good Garbage. On May 27, patrons who bring a printed flyer (found here) to the Frankfort Avenue Comfy Cow will have 15 percent of their purchase go towards Good Garbage.
