
The University of Bellarmine once again began hosting the annual Girl’s Louisville Invitational Tournament or LIT beginning yesterday. With a first game tip off at 3:30, the tournament was for a number of area analysts up for grabs, as most teams are pretty evenly matched in terms of overall game play.
Boasting teams from both the private and public sector and as far as Glasgow and Owensboro the LIT has grown into a source of pride within girls’ basketball in the Kentucky area as a whole. And, annually Bellarmine’s Knights Hall has provided a quality atmosphere for the games.
Sure enough round one didn’t disappoint with close competition. In the tournament bracket Christian Academy of Louisville (CAL) went head to head with Male. CAL and Male is an interesting matchup of Private versus Traditional schools and the Centurions of Christian Academy were able to grab the win from the Bulldogs of Male. Christian Academy will continue their quest taking on Ballard tonight, who received a first round bye due to their season record.
Meanwhile a Louisville school, Butler, went to battle with Shepherdsville’s Bullitt East in a close matchup that concluded with a Bullitt East victory. Bullitt East will meet Manual today in round two.
Going down the bracket Pleasure Ridge Park tipped off with Eastern in a battle of East Louisville vs. South Louisville that concluded with the annual powerhouse of Eastern squeaking out a ticket to round two to play Mercy.
Finally, in Assumption vs. Central, in a surprise to many Central was knocked out by the girl’s of Assumption who will play frequent rival Sacred Heart in today’s round.
Round two will be played today at Knight’s Hall from the late afternoon into the evening hours.
