    Bit to Do

Gary Clark, Jr. to Play Iroquois Amphitheater

Memphis is the heart and soul of blues, jazz and rock-n-roll. In 2012 I ventured down to The Beale Street Music Festival to see our hometown band, My Morning Jacket, perform in one of the greatest music cities in America. In the process I also discovered one of the greatest guitar players of our generation.

By chance I happened to catch the set of a young guitarist who captivated and demanded my attention with his distorted blues guitar and soulful voice. Gary Clark, Jr. won me over with "Catfish Blues" and sent me home wanting more. In the same year he played at Headliners, a show I made sure to attend, because he's one of those musicians you're not complete only seeing once.

His fusion of blues, jazz, soul, country and even hip hop is a satisfying blend that grips you in a very emotional way. All the feels are to be felt at one of his performances. He's a notable musician blending genres and proving that blues has a root in almost every musical medium in the past 100 years. Clark won a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance and was named "Best Young Gun" in Rolling Stone''s 2011 "Best of Rock" issue. Clark has performed alongside artists like B.B. King, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck and Joe Walsh.

This Thursday, June 18, you'll have the chance to experience the greatness that is Gary Clark, Jr. at Iroquois Amphitheater. Tickets are available here.
