    Bit to Do

New Albany's local arts scene is celebrating yet another boost in its downtown presence this Friday evening with a wine and cheese reception. Hosted by the Gallery on Pearl, the reception will take place in the newly renovated White House Centre from 6-8pm. Go, mingle, snack, marvel at the renovations, admire the art! Better yet, purchase some of the art and take it home with you to enjoy from the comfort of your couch.

The gallery's selection is fantastic, and the displays are easy to navigate. They have an excellent combination of both functional and aesthetic items, including berry bowls, sushi trays, wooden tea boxes, jewelry, handmade glass nightlights...and now an even greater selection of paintings, as well.

The Gallery on Pearl is still a relatively young downtown business, having opened its doors in March of 2007. However, it has seen tremendous growth in this short time. Started by

two Indiana University Southeast retired faculty members and their spouses--John and MaryAnn Guenther and Curt and Pam Peters--the gallery has grown from offering the works of a mere three ceramicists to its current collection featuring over thirty local and regional artists. And with their newly celebrated expansion into another cozy nook within the beautifully renovated White House Center, the Gallery now has space to really showcase two-dimensional work from local and regional artists.

But don't just take my word for it; by all means, come see for yourself! Why not make an entire evening of it? Take an early dinner in one of the many wonderful downtown dining establishments (might I suggest the Bank Street Brewhouse?), stop by the Gallery on Pearl's reception, then head down to Louisville for the Balloon Glow

Can't make the reception? The gallery is open for business Tuesday through Friday 11:00-5:00 and Saturday 11:00-3:00. They are located at 222 Pearl St. in Downtown New Albany. Call 542-4780 or visit www.thegalleryonpearl.com for more information.
