G. Love is the heart and soul of the blues based funk trio G. Love & Special Sauce – and he’s coming to Louisville to celebrate Derby Eve Eve with us.
The Philadelphia native burst onto the scene in the mid-90’s with his freshly unique third album “Yeah, It’s That Easy!” The album was an upbeat collection of funk and hip-hop inspired good time tunes, all lying beneath G. Love’s – Buddy Guy and B. B. King inspired guitar riffs.
He has spent the last twenty years playing shows all over the world, and just about every major festival under the sun. The Philadelphia collective have honed their improvisational interplay and this internal chemistry that has developed them the reputation of being one of the fiercest live acts in the industry today. Their sets are peppered with fan favorites from every album, each one so infectious you can’t help but move with the music. Tracks “Cold Beverage,” “My Baby’s Got Sauce,” “Stepping Stones,” “I-76,” and “The Things That I Used to Do” – get scrambled and bounce around in your head for days.
Currently the band is preparing to launch a tour in support of their latest album “Sugar,” which marks the 20th anniversary of their breakthrough and the return of D.J. and collaborator Jimi Jazz. Stocked with an arsenal full of new material, G. Love will be doing an acoustic show here in Louisville at Mercury Ballroom. Obviously if you are looking for some killer, bluesy funkdafied music on Oaks Eve, look no further than G. Love.
This is without a doubt going to be one of the live music highlights of Derby week.
G. Love will be doing a very special acoustic performance headlining the My Old Kentucky Blog and Four Roses Derby Party on Thursday, April 30th at Mercury Ballroom. Tickets are still available at $20. The show begins at 9 PM.
