Make absolutely no mistake about it; Deer Tick is the real thing.  Ever have that experience where the music from a band just aligns perfectly with what is happening in your life?  Well, Deer Tick is one of those bands for me.

When ‘Black Dirt Sessions’ was released in June 2010, I had just recovered from being hit by car as a pedestrian (Oh naughty Chrystie and Delancey, voted the most dangerous intersection in NYC repeatedly).  Things were pretty dark and were only to worsen in some other ways but I was alive, bionic and could walk so who’s complaining?  That album was there to not only highlight some misery, but also offer solace and actually give hope in seeing the light at the end of the tunnel that isn’t the A train.

Divine Providence, their latest LP, is as different as Bassnectar and Wilco.  You would think that Dropkick Murphys sat in on the booze enthused ‘Let’s all go to the bar’ but most the entire album simply jams.  Another side project, of frontman John McCauley’s, worth looking into is Diamond Rugs.  Almost an extension in style but a fresh sound that’s quite as infectious as Deer Tick.
