Forecastle Festival 2012 review: Bassnectar [Music]
    Print this page

If you weren’t at the Forecastle Festival on Friday to watch Bassnectar perform, I feel sorry for you. He tore the stage apart. I don’t know what was more enjoyable to watch: the crowd going crazy over his beats, him swaying his hair around like a boss, or the amazing stage set up. It was an experience of a lifetime.

This was not Bassnectar’s first time performing at the Forecastle Festival. The last time he was here was in 2010, but he still lived up to his “surprise” factor. I knew who Bassnectar was, I had heard his mixes and mashups in several songs before, but never had I expected the kind of show that he brought to Louisville on Friday.

Mast Stage was surrounded by a wild crowd head banging, dancing, shouting, clapping and anything you could possibly imagine to the sick beats. Although Lorin Ashton, better known as Bassnectar, is known for his dubstep, the genre of his music cannot be put into one category.

But hold up, there is no way I could talk about Bassnectar and not go on and on about his set. I was amazed. Some of the graphics were phenomenal, for lack of a better word. From outer space, to barren forests, to wheels, and eyes, the visuals were random, yet went perfectly with the beats and the lights, as you will see in the video at the end of this article. It was the perfect dance party. Sweat flying, fists pumping, hair swaying, glow sticks shooting et al.

For all of you Ellie Goulding fans, he also played the new hit “Lights,” which was amazing live.  My mind was blown, as I’m sure was everyone else’s who got to experience the experience of a lifetime. I wish I could whip my hair back and forth like he does.
