There is always some insanity towards the start of the school year. Starry-eyed Freshmen, fresh from the wombs of high school, run around campus like excited lemmings trying to find where the hell their class is, while the older people try to avoid them while looking cool. School is firmly in, however, and my partner assures me that the campus has calmed down significantly since the beginning of the semester.
Meanwhile, the U of L Floyd Theater continues to churn out weekly movies on the cheap. Unfortunately, film screenings were only free for the month of August, but at the low price of $1.50 for students and $3.00 for the general public, there really isn't much to complain about.
What's going on this week?
Tonight: Take This Waltz
(which we have previously discussed). The second film by Sarah Polley (
Away From Her
), it tells the story of Margot (Michelle Williams) and Daniel (Luke Kirby), who meet on a business trip and feel an attraction, then realize they live on the same street. The catch: Margot is happily married and thus is feeling no emotional void which would cause her to want to cheat on her husband (Seth Rogen)... but her attraction to Daniel is undeniable.
Take This Waltz
plays tonight (Thursday) at 5:00 and 8:00.
The Floyd marches on into the weekend with
, the live-action directorial debut of Seth MacFarlane, the man responsible for
Family Guy
and
American Dad
. John (Mark Wahlberg) has a special friend: Ted (voiced by MacFarlane), a teddy bear who came to life as the result of a wish he made as a child. Lifelong friends, their relationship is tested when John's girlfriend Lori (Mila Kunis) wants him more to herself.
Ted
will play on Friday and Saturday at 5:00 and 8:00.
The Floyd Theater is located on the third floor of the Student Activities Center on the U of L campus (look for the clock tower). Further information about the film screenings can be found at the Student Activities Board Film Committee Facebook page.
