Love is a funny thing. Our society has very strict rules for it: person A falls in love with person B. If the love is strong enough, they devote their lives to each other. Movies, books, and art have taught us as a society that this is how it is and how it should be, and if one person begins to feel attraction towards an outside party, there is something wrong. Very few people acknowledge an interesting reality: it is possible to feel strong emotions for more than one person at a time. I doubt there is a single person in a committed relationship who has not developed even a small crush on an outside party. This person will often feel ashamed, but anyone who stops to think about it will realize that they still love their partner just as much. The human capacity for love is amazing; it has, however, been cemented in our minds that it is impossible to have feelings for more than one person at once.
I could go on in greater detail, but I’ll get to the point: Village 8 Theater presents a limited run of the film Take This Waltz as the newest installment in the Louisville Exclusives series. Michelle Williams stars as Margot, a woman happily married to Lou (Seth Rogen), a writer of cookbooks. However, when she meets artist Daniel (Luke Kirby) on a plane, the attraction is mutual – and he happens to live on the same street as her. Sparks fly, love is tested, and everybody’s world gets shaken up.
Take This Waltz is scheduled to run until this Thursday, August 2 (but this is subject to extension). Village 8 is located at 4014 Dutchmans Lane. Further theater information and showtimes can be found at the Village 8 website.
