It’s not ALL about the HAT! Don’t forget an outfit or look is about the cohesive sum. That being said, the track will be a sea of fabulous hats, however most will not be supported by the right hair or attire. These hats are sure to steer you in the right direction! But remember to navigate with purpose and to not do too much.

While some start with the head piece, it seems you can’t go wrong this season with a one or no shoulder dress. Go for salmons to corals as they are colors of the moment. This trend is great in all colors and for all sizes. Not to mention a fantastic way to give a little sex appeal with out showing too much.

"Showing classic Kentucky Derby style with a horse racing twist....I love it!" said Joey Wagner of his show InSpired Style. This was one of the best local fashion shows I have been to. Featuring a range from Dillard's to Vineyard Vines. Final look was a fabulous model wearing only a garland of roses...Fantastic!

For my favorite accessory regardless of season…..Shoes! Derby is a chance to shine in this area. As we all know, every element of our wardrobe has significance. Yet nothing can tear apart or save an outfit quite like a pair of fabulous shoes! If you have not yet noticed, the wedge has hit with a vengeance! Petite ladies beware, a mass of “shoe” is gonna anchor you to the ground.

Ramon Ponder the executive producer for First Fridays "Illumination Pre-Derby Fashion Show" said "We showcased a mixture of edgy original designs and boutique clothing that appeal to a variety of fashion interest." of show held at Kentucky Derby Museum. While the execution of event was not perfect, it was great to see local designers. The Perfect Shoe By K (shown above) and Scooter Ray were my favorites. Both Designers showed how 'over-the-top' can be just enough.

The final key component is the clutch. The best way to pick this item is based on what will hold a pair of thong sandals. Refer to Louisville Magazine reason number 81 for why we love the Derby. I have highlighted my favorite places to hide your winnings in “Clutch Players” on page 30.
