    Bit to Do

Margaret Browning offers style, entertaining advice for the holidays [Fashion]

Saturday afternoon, Margaret Browning of Margaret’s Consignment & Collectibles held a free workshop for anyone wanting to help make their holiday entertaining and style more fabulous. Those in attendance experienced a wonderful hostess who entertained with stories from the style icon’s life, relating them back to what she was doing at the moment. Browning came up with the idea for the workshop after a number of her customers had come up to her for advice:

“I had a lot of requests about fashion and about food; a lot of people know that I cook, and I love to cook. I like to do fun, real easy things, and I like to cater to people who have a hard time with fashion, and have a hard time with cooking, because I like to make it very simple and show them how quick and easy it is.”

The event began with Browning whipping together white chocolate bark by melting white chocolate chips in a microwave for a few seconds, then pouring the melted goodness onto a baking sheet, sprinkling toasted pistachios and dried apricots before allowing it to cool and harden. Browning followed with toasted cinnamon bread dipped in a mixture of whipped cream and raspberry cream cheese, and finishing with brie topped with bacon bits, green onions and jelly that was softened in the microwave for a few seconds.

Regarding winter style, Browning’s main focus was on accessories, dressing up a mannequin with various scarves, belts, gloves and jewelry, with a strong emphasis on having a pair of black leggings in your dresser, building an outfit upon the foundation. As for decorating the home, ideas included adding numerous red ornaments into a glass bowl, and trying red ribbons around candle holders. Finally, Browning wrapped up the intimate gathering with an angel food cake covered in strawberries, whipped cream, and strawberry liqueur.

Browning can be found at her consignment boutique on 2700 Frankfort Ave., which is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. You can also find Margaret’s Consignment & Collectibles online at, as well as on Facebook.
