If you were driving down Bardstown Road last weekend and swore you saw a bunch of people watching a French-subtitled print of

    Ghostbusters

from lawn chairs in a church parking lot, you weren’t hallucinating. And this weekend, you can get up close for a free “walk-in movie” at the lot at Bardstown Road Presbyterian Church (also the site of the

    Saturday farmers’ market

    ) not once but twice.

“The idea is to invite neighbors to bring lawn chairs and coolers on foot to not a drive-in movie but a walk-up movie,” says organizer Chris Lieberman, who is also the pastor at the church. “We just wanted to try it out and see who comes, and if it catches on it’ll be neighbor meeting neighbor.”

The movies are deliberately low-tech, with a sheet serving as a projection screen, and a cartoon before each feature. Tonight’s film is

    Raiders of the Lost Ark

, and Saturday’s scheduled movie is

    Mary Poppins

. Both films are set to begin at 8:45 p.m.

    As for the captions, both

    Raiders

    and

    Mary Poppins

will be subtitled, this time in Spanish—which may be a good thing for anyone who wants to follow along en español

With apparently starless skies overhead, though, it has yet to be seen whether the show will go on. “We’re like NASA,” says Lieberman. “Do we have a window to launch?” Based on interest, however, the program may or may not continue, so if you think you may want to see alfresco films later in the summer, pop by and say hi.

For more information on the program, call Chris Lieberman at 475-8025, or check

. The church and lot are located at

    1722 Bardstown Road.
