A musical about the deeper meaning of love takes place with The Fantasticks at the Jewish Community Center beginning tonight.

The Fantasticks performances will happen Sept. 8, 10, 11, 12, 15, 17, and 18 at 7:30 p.m. each night.  Matinee shows, meanwhile, are to take place on Sept. 11 and 18 at 2 p.m. each day.  All shows will occur at the Jewish Community Center of Louisville, located at 3600 Dutchmans Lane near the Highlands section of Louisville.

Tickets for each show are $18 per person.  Tickets can be purchased at the Jewish Community Center or by calling 502-459-0660.  Rush tickets may also be available for some Sunday, Monday, and Thursday shows.  More information on the show can be found at the Jewish Community Center website.

In the musical The Fantasticks, two fathers look to make life a little more chaotic for Louisa and Matt, who have fallen in love with each other.  They do this by making a mock abduction.  The whole point is to help their children discover a deeper meaning of love.

John Leffert directed The Fantasticks, which Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt created.  The cast includes Jordan Price as El gallo, Kyle Braun as Matt, Mera Kathryn Corlett as Luisa, Gary Crockett as Bellomy, John Trueblood as Hucklebee, Jacob Isaac as The Mute, Jason Cooper as Henry, and David Beach as Mortimer.

The Fantastics is one of the world's longest-running musicals, having spent 42 years Off-Broadway in the Sullivan Street Playhouse (1960-2002).  The show was revived in 2006 and is still running at the Snapple Theatre Center and Jerry Orbach Theater.  Other versions of the show continue to be performed throughout the world, including at Centerstage.

The Fantasticks is just one of several shows taking part in Centerstage's 2011-2012 season.  For more information on the rest of the season, click on this link.
