The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience will open tomorrow at 528 West Main Street, on the super-trendy Whiskey Row. According to Evan Williams' website, "The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience will feature an artisanal distillery, tours, tastings and more!" According to the Courier Journal, "the company is investing about 10 million dollars on main street to create the 'experience'."
If you take one of the guided tours, ($12 per drinking age adult and $9 per non drinking age adult (15-20) and free for kids under 15) you can watch the bourbon making process, learn the history of Evan Williams, (Insider Louisville reports that "Entire walls are filled with computer generated, high-definition graphics. the 18th Century riverfront activity bustles as 21st century visitors eavesdrop.") taste some bourbon and buy some merchandise. Tours last 45 minutes to an hour.
The Evan Williams Experience will be the official first stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. No doubt this development is partially in response to Louisville's recent growth in popularity as a tourist destination.
