Looking for some early evening entertainment this Easter Sunday? Come! Feast your ears on some quality acoustic entertainment, moisten your lips with an ice-cold beer, and educate your taste buds with a “To bean or not to bean” burger, this Sunday at the Bard’s Town. From 6 – 8 PM, Jim Needler will be hosting his 24th “Conspiracy and Guitar Pull.” Every third Sunday of the month Jim performs his original works and invites two local guest artists to join him on the stage, for a cover charge of $3. During this time he also interviews his guest performers on their approaches and philosophies about the art of songwriting. The April 20th show will be featuring local singer-songwriters Jay Goldstein and Paul Moffett.
“I started this show in May 2012 with my son Maple (aka Maplex Monk), who helps with the sound and recording,” says Jim Needler. Listeners can also tune into the second half of the show on Crescent Hill Radio (crescenthill.com) where it is streamed live. During these performances, Jim takes pleasure in exploring the stylistic techniques and inspirations of his guest performers. Together they delve into their personal processes of writing songs. “I’m often compared to Bob Dylan and that’s OK,” Jim admits. And it’s true. Jim’s whimsical voice set to his classic-like originals, as well as his taste in hats, will capture the heart of any listener.
Jim explains, “The show gets me out to meet people I admire, to learn from them, to meet their fans, and to share my songs. I really do love to play. I was inspired by Johnny Cash’s biography. He had what he called ‘guitar pulls’ at his house, where he invited songwriters over for supper and took turns swapping songs.” Emylou Harris and Bob Dylan were some of Johnny’s talented guests.
Jim takes a similar approach at this monthly get-together, where he proudly welcomes most of the performing songwriters in Louisville at one time or another.
