Landlocked Louisville looks beyond its borders this coming Tuesday, April 10, when Bellarmine hosts Sylvia Earle, noted oceanographer, explorer, author and lecturer.
Dubbed “a hero for the planet” by TIME magazine and “Her Deepness” by the New York Times, Dr. Earle has led more than 100 expeditions and logged nearly 7,000 hours underwater, with a record solo dive to 1,000 meters. The New Jersey native, who grew up exploring the shore and beyond, led the first team of female aquanauts during the Navy’s Tektite Project in the 1960s, and her research—documented in more than 175 scientific publications—specializes in exploration, conservation and technology in the deep sea and other remote environments.
The presentation is sponsored by Bellarmine’s Center for Regional Environmental Studies.
