Do more than rake leaves this fall! Learn how you can address climate change in your own backyard when Bellarmine University hosts “When Spirit Meets Action: Working Together In Response to Climate Change” this coming Monday, October 24 at 7:00 p.m. in Frazier Hall. The program will feature activist Julia Butterfly Hill.
The program is designed to inspire responses to climate change by sharing real-life stories from within the local community about how individuals are moved to respond to this global crisis. Participants will learn about steps they can take in their daily lives to lower their carbon footprint.
Hill is best known for living in an ancient California redwood tree, “Luna,” for two years in the late 1990s in a successful effort to protect its forest from clear-cutting efforts. She has been the subject of several documentaries, including 2000’s Butterfly and 2008’s Fierce Light. (You may also remember a Simpsons episode, “Lisa the Tree Hugger,” based on her endeavors.)
The evening is sponsored by Kentucky Interfaith Power and Light and the Bellarmine University Center for Regional Environmental Studies.
