Devon Allman has spent his life in the shadow of his father Greg. Second generation of rock greatness. The offspring of musical greatness. The heir to the southern rock throne. But Devon Allman has always been his own man.
The singer, songwriter, guitarist, and keyboardist has been earning his stripes and cutting his teeth has a serious musician and serious bluesman.
Devon started his career with a band christened Honeytribe. He formed the group in St. Louis, MO – with musician friends Jack Kirkner, Mark Oyarzabal, and George Potsos. With a rotating line-up the bluesy roots-rock band formed in 1999, lasting as road dogs in bars and juke joints until going on indefinite hiatus in 2012. In the course of their career, they sadly only made it to the studio to record two studio albums – “Torch” and “Space Age Blues,” respectively.
After disbanding Honeytribe, Allman next teamed up with fellow musical offspring Cyril Neville and Charlie Wooten – as well as studio greats Yonrico Scott and Mike Zito – to form the Royal Southern Brotherhood. Together they released two albums, their 2012 self-titled debut and the 2014 follow-up “Heartsoulblood.”
In between working with Royal Southern Brotherhood, Allman got around to releasing his first solo album in 2013 called “Turquois.” The album showcased Devon’s acuity for songwriting, with tracks like “Time Machine,” “Homesick,” and “Into the Darkness;” as well as showcasing his talent for song interpretation when he covered Tom Petty’s “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.” Last year he released his follow-up album, “Ragged & Dirty” which was received with critical acclaim and industry buzz, which is what he is currently on the road supporting.
Devon Allman will be performing tonight May 15th at New Vintage. The show begins at 9:00 PM and tickets are $15, Jericho Woods will also be on the bill.
