On Sunday May 31, 2015, some of Louisville’s finest musicians and bands are gathering to showcase the immortal music of someone who is perhaps the world’s greatest living songwriter, the incomparable Bob Dylan.

The show will take place at Lettersong Gallery, and will feature two dozen artists paying tribute to one of their greatest influences, by playing some of the Dylan songs that have spoken to them in their lives and their art.

Some of the singers featured are Sean Patrick Hill, Tim Delonjay, Gino Simpson, Jim Needler, Tyrone Cotton, Mullygrub of Oolite, Serpant Wisdom, and Kingsley Durant.  But the show will culminate with a single epic finale – at which point they will have an all-out jam, collective performance of Dylan’s nostalgic classic “My Back Pages.”

There will also be original Dylan Art decorating the walls, mostly crated by some of Louisville’s pool of amazing local artists.  They will have “sundry swag,” and some Dylan-Grillin’ out back if you get hungry over the course of the afternoon.

Dear Bob, was hatched by a young local woman who goes simply by Gretchen, during an extended trip to Africa.  She eventually returned to the States, and recruited her friends Rebecca and Jen, to help make this idea a reality.

Seeing as this is the first year for Dear Bob, Gretchen and cohorts aren’t exactly sure what the event can become, but they are constantly kicking ideas around to make the tribute bigger and better.  The show was intended to coincide with Dylan’s birthday on May 24th, but that became unfeasible, so they manage to arrange the show as close as possible, so they settled with Dylan’s “Birthday Week.”

The inaugural Dear Bob, showcase is planned for Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Lettersong Studio/Gallery in Butchertown - the show will begin at 2 PM, and admission is free.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
