Who doesn’t want to kick off Derby weekend off with a beer fest?
Well, you’re just in luck with this year’s annual Derby City Brew Fest being held Friday (Oaks Day), May 1, held outdoors on the plaza in front of KFC Yum! Center downtown.
There will be 15 different brewers represented and over 60 different kinds of beers on hand as you make your way around the tasting sector. The specialty beer that will be circulating the event will be variations on Kentucky Common, a cream ale developed by brewers in the Louisville area during the 1800’s.
While Kentucky has long been noted for their bourbon scene, our craft beer scene is rapidly becoming one of the most well respected up-and-coming brew cities in the country. And this event is intended to highlight all of the people that have worked so hard and have been so passionate about their beers for the past several years and have put Louisville on the map. They are small breweries that we have all grown to know and love and have become true staples, and beloved businesses in our community.
In case you’re wondering what you’ll find there, the local breweries that will be represented are: B.B.C., Against the Grain Brewery & Smokehouse, Apocalypse Brew Works, Cumberland Brews, Great Flood Brewing and Falls City, all from Louisville; Lexington’s West Sixth Brewing and Country Boy Brewing; and Southern Indiana’s New Albanian Brewing Company and Flat 12 Bierwerks.
There will also be live music throughout the all-night event featuring performance from The Villebillies, Uncommon Houseflies, Whiskey Bent Valley Boys, Grateful Derby and Jericho Woods.
The Derby City Brew Fest will begin at 5 PM, on Friday, April 1, in front of KFC Yum! Center. Tickets are still available and are only 10 dollars.
