Copper and Kings is officially open for business. There was a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning, so even though they have been “sort of” open for a few months already, now they are officially open. Tours will be offered Friday nights and Saturdays, and the outdoor spaces will be available for rentals.
Copper and Kings is the first American Brandy distillery in the state of Kentucky. They do make other things, such as absinthe, but they are known for their bourbon barrel aged apple brandy. When you tour the facility you will get to see the copper stills, each named after a special lady in Bob Dylan’s life, as well as the basement storage area where rock music is played to the aging barrels.
Eric Gregory of the Kentucky Distiller’s Association says this new distillery will be great for tourism, as it is not far from the budding downtown distillery district. Mayor Greg Fischer says there are a lot of great things going on in this city, which has tremendous distilling history and culture, adding this “makes our city a great place to be.”
Fischer also issues a proclamation declaring today “Copper and Kings Day.” I predict a big party to celebrate next October 20th.
This distillery has been a huge community effort, and founder Joe Heron took the time to call out and thank many of the hardworking people who made the distillery what it is. His wife and cofounder Lesley calls the distillery a community asset.
Public tours will begin November 1 and will take place on the hour every hour Fridays from 10-8 and Saturday and Sunday from 10-3. Tours will cost $10 per person and will last approximately an hour. Members of the military with a valid ID can tour free of charge.
