Wine connoisseurs talk of paring meals with complimentary foods, but people commonly refer to art forms as if they exist separately from each other. But of course, art does not exist in a vacuum any more than food and drink do. Just like red wine and a steak dish, books and live music can set each other to perfection in a way that neither could achieve on its own.
The Clifton Center and Carmichael's Bookstore have teamed up to create the Backstage Book Club. Like the food and wine, books have been artfully paired with the concerts at the Clifton Center stage in the 2014-2015 season. This new program, part of the Clifton Center's initiative to provide the community with diverse ways to explore art and culture, will provide book club participants with a way to gain a deeper understanding of the cultures described in the books, which will subsequently enrich the live music experience. The Clifton Center collaborated with Carmichael's to select books to accompany the culture and music of the artists already scheduled for the upcoming season.
Interested parties can purchase the book at Carmichael’s and receive a 10% discount on the companion concert. An hour before each show, readers will discuss the book. Pre-concert refreshments will be served.
