The quest for stardom and dealing with stage mothers are part of the life of Gypsy, the Sondheim classic which will open on Friday at Clarksville Little Theatre.

All performances of Gypsy will take place at Clarksville Little Theatre, located at 301 East Montgomery Avenuein Clarksville, IN. Performances will take place on Sept. 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 at 8 p.m. each night. A matinee performance will occur on Sept. 12 @ 1 p.m.

Tickets for each show are $15 for adults, $12 for students aged 13-18, $12 for seniors aged 60 and up, and $8 for children aged six to 12. Keep in mind the theatre only accepts cash and checks.

Gypsy is based on Gypsy Rose Lee's memoirs. The show features Gypsy's life in the 1920s and 1930s as a stage mother, Rose, looks to make Gypsy, once known as Louise, and sister June stars on the Vaudeville circuit.

Debra Rice Endris directed Gypsy, which also features Stephen Sondheim's lyrics, Jule Styne's music, and Arthur Laurents's book.

The real Gypsy had a successful career, particulary on the burlesque circuit, before writing her memoir in 1957. Gypsy passed away in 1970. The show itself has had its own stardom, going five times to Broadway, most recently in 2008-2009 at the St. James Theatre.

Following Gypsy, Clarksville Little Theatre will present the Neil Simon-created Rumors. Auditons for the farcical murder mystery will take place on Sept. 12 and 13 @ 7 p.m. at Clarksville Little Theatre. Males and females aged 16 and up are encouraged to audition. Mike Seely will direct the production.
