Food, music, and fun are to be found in the production Church Basement Ladies, which will premiere at Derby Dinner Playhouse tomorrow.

Church Basement Ladies will go on every day between Aug. 9 and Sept. 25 except Mondays.  Evening shows will occur at 7:45 p.m. with buffet beginning at 6 p.m.  Sunday matinee shows are to happen at 1:30 p.m. with buffet starting at 11:45 a.m.  Finally, Wednesday matinees will show at 1 p.m. with buffet also beginning at 11:45 a.m.  All shows will take place at Derby Dinner Playhouse, located at 525 Marriott Drive in Clarksville, IN.

The buffets, by the way, will contain a combination of foods, including Derby fried chicken, carved roast beef, an assortment of vegetables, and a salad bar, among other selections.

Tickets for the show depend on the day of attendance.  Friday evening shows are $40 per person, Saturday evening shows are $43, and all other evening shows are $39 per person.  Meanwhile, Sunday matinee shows are $35 per person, and Wednesday matinee shows are $34 per person.  Tickets can be purchased at the Derby Dinner box office, the Derby Dinner website, or by phone at 812-288-8281.

The musical Church Basement Ladies is a comedy based on the usually underappreciated women who prepare meals for various yearly church events.  This includes avoiding near disasters, like a record Christmas dinner, dealing with loss of close friends, and understanding each other and each other's backgrounds.

Jim Stowell and Jessica Zuehlke created the musical comedy, which is based on the Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson book Growing Up Lutheran.

For Derby Dinner, the cast includes Cary Wiger as Pastor E.L. Gunderson, Rita Thomas as Vivian Snustad, Tina Jo Wallace as Mavis Gilmerson, Janet Essenpreis as Karin Engelson and Michelle Johnson as Signe Engelson.  Bekki Jo Schneider directed the production.

During the run of Church Basement Ladies, an open audition will take place at Derby Dinner Playhouse.  The audition is scheduled for Aug. 12 at 1 p.m.  More information on the show and audition can be found at the Derby Dinner website.
