The Sound of Music follows the Von Trapp family, including the stern baron of a father, and their new governess, Maria, in Austria just before World War II. The Rodgers and Hammerstein-created musical features such well known song as Do-Re-Mi, My Favorite Things, and The Sound of Music.
As with mulitple other Rodgers and Hammerstein productions, The Sound of Music went to Broadway, first in 1959. The production lasted four years on Broadway in its initial run. The musical became a movie starring Julie Andrews a few years later.
The musical was also the last Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein production to premiere before Hammerstein's death.
The Sound of Music cast includes Kelly Sina as Maria Rainer, Brian Bowman as Captain George Von Trap, and Debbie King-Raque as The Mother Abbess. Lee Buckholz directed the production, which also features the musical direction Scott Bradley and choreography from Heather Paige Folsom.
Following The Sound of Music's run, Derby Dinner Playhouse will hold open auditions on August 12. More information can be found at Derby Dinner Playhouse's website.
