Louisville’s ever-eclectic music scene is offering up something new and exciting this weekend at Headliners, with a local R&B showcase featuring some of the city’s best rhythm and blues. The Zach Longoria Project has planned quite a show featuring 2-time Louisville Music Award-winner Jalin Roze, Jonny P, Ryan Marsh, Aryk Crowder, and Louisville’s up-and-coming Chanson Calhoun, who will be performing a new song at the show.

Since Calhoun’s first show at Louisville’s Hard Rock Café last August, she has done nothing but impress audiences with her creative mind and soulful voice. After releasing her debut single, “Sunny Side Up” on iTunes last fall, Calhoun began the 2015 with performances in Lexington and Cincinnati.

But now the 21-year-old is ready to raise her voice on a local stage once more. She’s also letting her voice be heard as an active volunteer for Louisville’s youth program, The Academy of Music Production Education and Development (AMPED), alongside other local musicians like 1200’s Jecorey Arthur.

Volunteering for about a year, Calhoun mentors young girls who are interested in vocal music. “It’s great to be able to help people who are interested in what I’m interested in,” Calhoun says.

Unlike many solo R&B vocalists, Calhoun sings with a live band of musicians during performances, which not only adds a unique charm to her live sound, but also provides more of a show to audience members. “I’ve performed with a DJ before,” she admits, “but having a live band just feels so much better when performing.”

Calhoun is currently working on her new album and plans to release singles on iTunes and SoundCloud throughout the year starting with her new single, “Enjoy” which will officially be released at Saturday night’s show at Headliners.

Tickets to the R&B showcase are $15 at the door but can be purchased in advance for $12 at headlinerslouisville.com. For more information on Chanson Calhoun and her upcoming project, visit her website here
