How do you pamper the mother/wife/grandmother or other special woman in your life on Mother’s Day? Personally, a nice meal, a break from the day-to-day tasks, handwritten cards from my children, and a family outing somewhere together are enough to satisfy me. Here are some ideas to spark your creativity if you are looking for a nice brunch or event to do together.

On Sunday, May 12, you and your family can board the Belle of Louisville for their Mother’s Day Cruise. Boarding is at 1:30pm and the cruise is from 2pm-4pm. Tickets can be purchased here.

Locust Grove is hosting the Gardeners Fair where you can find many gift items for that last minute purchase for the special person this Mother’s Day.

Take mom and the rest of the family to the Louisville Free Public Library’s How-To Festival this Saturday, May 11 from 10am-3pm. Learn how to make 50 things in 5 hours, all for free. You may find the perfect gift or card-making project just in time for Sunday morning.

The Louisville Zoo is offering free admission to the zoo for mothers this Sunday, May 12. The first 500 mothers will also receive some nice giveaways.

Buy a gift for mom from the Buy Local Fair happening this Saturday, May 11 from 2pm-8pm. It’s held at the historic Water Tower on River Road.

Celebrate all things downtown with the Hometown Tourist Celebration. Details can be found by clicking here. Start a new Mother’s Day tradition and discover downtown together!

Enjoy a picnic downtown and participate as a family in the free scavenger hunt – win mom (and everyone else) a free T-shirt!

Take a free walking tour of the Possibility city. The tours are on Saturdays at 10:30am and Sundays at 2pm and start from the Visitor’s Center.

Take mom to see the Derby City Rollergirls on Saturday, May 11 at 8pm at Champs Rollerdome. Click here for tickets.

In the Beechmont community this weekend is the Festival of Flowers. It’s Saturday, May 11 from 9am-3pm. Nothing says Mother’s Day more than a beautiful arrangement of flowers. Call 502-361-4952 for more information.

Some area locations serving up Mother’s Day brunches include the RIVUE at the Galt House, Crowne Plaza Louisville Airport, Village Anchor in Anchorage, the Oak Room at the Seelbach Hotel, and Mitchell’s Fish Market at The Summit. Check links for ticket prices or to make reservations.

At Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft, families can make a card to celebrate mom during their drop-in workshop this Sunday, May 12 from 12pm-3pm; $6 per person.
