As the glory (and hangover) of Derby fades into a distant memory, take some time to figure out what to do for Mother's Day. Here are some great events going on around town next weekend that will make mom happy, no matter what her tastes are...

    For the Derby enthusiast..

A day at Churchill Downs: Just in case, your mom hasn't gotten her Derby fix for this year, Churchill Downs is offering a special Mother's Day event.  On Sunday, starting at 11:30, come on down to the track and spend a day at the Downs. Reservations are required (tickets start around $47) and includes admission, reserved seat, racing program and chef's table. My family spent Mother's Day at Churchill Downs a couple of years ago and it was a lot of fun.

    For the animal/fitness lover...

Louisville Zoo's "Throo the Zoo 5k Run/Walk": If mom's idea of fun is running through the Louisville Zoo, than this is the event for you! On Saturday, May 8, you and mom can take a run/walk amongst the animals at the zoo. The registration fee before May 5 is $25 and includes post-race refreshments, prizes and admission to the zoo.

    For the art enthusiast...

Art in the Arbor at Thomas Jefferson Church: This art fair at Thomas Jefferson Unitarian Church is small, but totally worth it. They have over 100 local and regional artists and up to 8,000 visitors each year on the weekend after Derby. My mom loves art fairs, so this event is definitely on our list this year!

    For the gardening guru...

Gardener's Fair and Silent Auction at Locust Grove: If your mom has a green thumb, then come to this event at Locust Grove. It takes place all weekend and offers visitors the opportunity to purchase plants, flowers, herbs, gardening accessories and antique yard furniture for her own garden.

    For the Earth-mother...

Mighty Kindness Earth Day Hootenanny: Party down on May 8th at Willow Park at this annual event. There will be local performers, environmentally-friendly local businesses, food from local farms and restaurants, free yoga classes, massage and lots more. The event is also completely free!
