What happens when the Peanuts gang grows up? Find out in Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, which opens on Thursday.
Dog Sees God performances will take place on Aug. 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25 at 8 p.m. each night. All shows are to happen at The Bard's Town, located at 1801 Bardstown Road in the Highlands.
Tickets for each show (except opening night) are $15 if paying by cash at the door. Tickets are $16 if paying via credit card, which can be done online at the Louisville Repertory Company website. The opening night show, however, is a pay-what-you-can scale between $8 and $20 cash.
Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead essentially flips the traditional Peanuts gang script. In this production, CB is now a teenager, and his dog has died of rabies. That leads CB to question the possibility of a life after death. He finds his traditional friends too strung out or otherwise unable to help. However, an artistic kid, a victim of bullying, may provide CB with sorely needed perspective.
With the grown up gang comes grown up issues, including drug use, violence, sexual relations, identity issues, suicide, and others.
Bert V. Royal created the comedy, which features Todd Zeigler as CB, Stephanie Adams as CB's sister, Brandon Cox as Van, Mike Mayes as Matt, Richie Goff as Beethoven, Michael Roberts as Tricia, Erica McClure as Marcy, and Meg Caudill as Van's Sister. Natalie Fields directed the production.
Dog Sees God spent time Off-Broadway in 2005-2006, being performed at the Century Center for the Performing Arts.
