Throw your hands up, another awesome show with indie-rock God and Goddess Paul Baribeau and Kimya Dawson, will be doing an acoustic show Sunday at Studioworks. Louisville is the latest on the duo’s “Book As You Go Tour” which is more than self-explanatory, but leaves very little heads up between the announcement and show date. Every show is a spontaneous surprise.
Paul Baribeau is a Michigan native who has been deemed a folk-punk singer. He garnered critical attention with his self-titled 2004 debut album. Critics revered it and it garnered him an ever expanding and loyal fanbase. He followed that with a live collaboration album with Ginger Alford called “Darkness on the Edge of Your Town Tour” where the duo covered Bruce Springsteen songs. He has since released two more albums of original material “Grand Ledge” and “Unbearable.”
Kimya Dawson came to underground prominence being ½ of the band The Moldy Peaches alongside co-singer/songwriter Adam Green. The band went on hiatus in 2004 and Dawson has been putting out solo albums that hinge on her quirky, whimsical lyrics and nostalgic melodies, charmed by Dawson’s lo-fi recordings. Her music is charming, funny, political, feminist, and romantic all at once – with album titles like “Thunder Thighs,” “Remember I Love You,” “Alphabutt,” and “Hidden Vagenda.” It was her voice and songs (both solo and with The Moldy Peaches) that were featured all over the 2008 film “Juno” and also drove the soundtrack to become a best seller.
If you wanna check out the show, Kimya Dawson and Paul Baribeau’s “Book As You Go Tour” will stop in Louisville at Studioworks (2008 Eastern Parkway) on Sunday May 3rd. The show will begin at 6 PM and admission will be $5-$10 on a sliding scale. The show is all ages.
