Bill Maher is coming to town tonight and he is going to do what he does best…challenge.  He challenges everything.  He challenges convention, religion, politics, and every day society.  Maher has been in front of the comedy firing squad for the better part of four decades now, and he’s still on the road, nowhere close to settling down.

Maher born and raised in New York City started out hosting shows at landmark NYC comedy club Catch a Rising Star.  During this period of the late 70’s and early 80’s, Catch a Rising Star was the center of the comedy universe with future comedy legends like Robin Williams, David Letterman, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Jerry Seinfeld, and Jay Leno, gracing its stage on a nightly basis.

Maher spent most of the 80’s on the road bouncing from club to club every weekend until he finally rose to national attention when he began hosting and political commentating on his Comedy Central show Politically Incorrect, which became to wildly popular it eventually moved to network t.v. on ABC.  The show won countless awards during its run, but was canceled in 2002 after Maher (shockingly) made controversial comments in regards to the event of September 11th, 2001.

A year later Maher returned on the much more fitting platform of HBO, hosting and producing a new show (which strayed slightly from the Politically Incorrect round-table format), Real Time with Bill Maher.  The controversial show is still on the air, and in typical Maher fashion is critically acclaimed and won a litany of awards, including more than 10 Prime Time Emmys.

Bill Maher will be performing tonight at Whitney Hall at Kentucky Center for the Arts.  The show will begin at 8 PM and tickets start $35.

    About Brent Owen

Born and raised in Louisville, I have lived here most of my life (except during a short furlough, when I, lovelorn and naive, followed a girl to Baton Rouge). My roots are here, my family, my friends, and my life are all here. I work primarily as a free-lance writer for a few local and regional publications. I have also written two books (one a memoir, the other a novel) that barring some divine intervention, will probably never see the light of day. I find myself deeply ingrained in the local bar scene, or perhaps better said, I often indulge in the local drinking culture. I love music, movies, comedy, and really just about any other live performance art.
