Bike to Work Day is this Friday-grab a helmet and ride!

When I was little, I loved riding my bike. So many of my childhood memories involve bikes, whether it was when I wrecked my sister’s bike into the neighbor’s mailbox or how my friends and I would ride our bikes around the circle while other kids sprayed us with water hoses or how I couldn’t really ride without training wheels until I was 9 ½.

So why is it that as an adult, I never get out and ride?

    Why, indeed.

This Friday, May 17, people like me, as well as bicycle enthusiasts, are encouraged to get out their bikes and participate in Bike to Work Day in the Louisville area.

On Friday, there will be six designated Meet & Ride locations so people can ride to work in a group. Never fear if you are a beginner, as each location will have an experienced Ride Captain to serve as a guide for your trip. The Meet & Ride is at 7:00 a.m. and then you will meet up with your group at Fourth Street Live! at 5:15 p.m. to ride back.

    Easy, right?

The Meet & Ride locations are as follows:

    · Seneca Park- basketball court parking lot, west of the tennis courts

    · Iroquois Park- Amphitheater parking lot

    · Shawnee Park -Southwestern and Broadway entrance, then at bus stops along Market Street

    · Southern Indiana-Park and TARC at Illinois Ave and 9th St.

    · Tyler Park - tennis courts along Baxter Ave

    · Clark Park -parking lot at Thurston and Dixie

There will also be a celebration at noon at Fourth Street Live! with vendors, commuter information and Louisville’s new printed bike map will be available.

So, grab your helmet and do something not only for your health but also for the environment this Friday.
