Chances are you already have barbecue and swimming pools on the brain for Memorial Day but in case you were looking for an exciting alternative to kick off your summer, consider adventuring this weekend to the Chamber Music Festival of the Bluegrass at Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill that will feature the world-renowned Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center.

Founded in the late sixties as the brainchild of American composer and then President of Lincoln Center, William

    Schuman

, the Chamber Music Society showcases a small repertory company of the finest string, wind and keyboard players in the world.  Through its wide-ranging concerts catered to connoisseurs and newcomers alike, CMS has grown into one of the most celebrated chamber music organizations in the world.

According to its website, the Chamber Music Society “is committed to bringing audiences the finest performances of an extraordinary body of repertoire, dating as far back as the Renaissance and continuing through the centuries to the finest works of our time.”  This weekend’s appearances look to offer just that.

Featuring the music of everyone from Schubert to Strauss and

    Kodály

    to

    Korngold

, the lineup of four concerts over Saturday and Sunday promises to be one to remember.  Performances are at 11 am and 5 pm on both days and free pre-concert lectures occur at 3 pm each afternoon.  Tickets are $20 for the morning concerts and $38 for the evening concerts and can be purchased at the door.  For more information about the Festival click here.
