The Chamber Music Society of Louisville will present the Elias String Quartet this Sunday
at Comstock Hall at the School of Music. Formed in 1998 at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, the Elias String Quartet takes its name from Mendelssohn’s oratorio, Elijah
, and is considered one of the most dynamic young ensembles in the world.
A recipient of the 2010 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, which funds specific projects of talented musicians, the Quartet’s 2011-2012 season brought debuts at Carnegie Hall in New York City and at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C.
With the financial support of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust, the Elias Quartet has embarked on a season-long Beethoven project that will showcase of all the composer’s string quartet literature, including at Sunday’s concert where the composer’s Quartet in E Minor, Op. 59, No. 2 will be performed. This weekend’s performance will also include Debussy’s String Quartet and Officium Breve

The concert begins at 3 pm this Sunday, March 16th
in Comstock Hall at the University of Louisville’s School of Music. A pre-concert lecture will be at 2 pm
in Room 130. Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased online
