We here on the banks of the Ohio perhaps take for granted the progressive backbone of Louisville’s infrastructure. The vibrant mixture of small, southern town and artistic big-city borough has created a group of natives who love their city, practice loyalty towards local business and feel at ease concocting quirky vibes of Kentucky heritage with modern swag (upscale bourbon dining, anyone?). But preservation of the environment, culture and resources doesn’t necessarily end at the limits of the Metro’s map. As local author Sally Van Winkle Campbell knows well, efforts to keep the Bluegrass healthy, wealthy and wise in the ways of its heritage is something that is both growing in popularity and reaching into all corners of our fair state. Join Van Winkle Campbell as she shares her new book, Saving Kentucky: Greening the Bluegrass, tomorrow evening, Wednesday, May 23rd, at Historic Locust Grove.
Highlighting the natives working to restore Kentucky’s natural and cultural bounty, Van Winkle Campbell’s Saving Kentucky is a comprehensive look at the businesses and individuals dedicated to maintaining (and, in some cases, re-establishing) a healthy environment, preserving historic structures and promoting the legacy of Kentucky’s land and people. Among those featured in the book are Kenny’s Cheeses (if you don’t know Kenny and his cheese, then you are seriously depriving yourself) and the Smith-Berry Winery – both also contributing the fruits of their labors for a special wine and cheese tasting following Van Winkle Campbell’s presentation.
Celebrate both Kentucky’s history and progress at Historic Locust Grove tomorrow night with Van Winkle Campbell’s Saving Kentucky. The event will begin at 7pm with a book signing and Q&A to follow; copies of Saving Kentucky: Greening the Bluegrass will be available for purchase on site. Raise a glass (and some cheese) to the Bluegrass and acknowledge those dedicated to keeping the hills of Kentucky green and rolling for generations.
Historic Locust Grove is located at 561 Blankenbaker Lane. Admission to this event is free for Friends of Locust Grove and $5 per person for the public.
