2008 will mark the 23rd year of Bardstown Road Aglow, the yearly holiday celebration signaling the return of the Christmas season in the Highlands neighborhood. Saturday, beginning at 5 PM, come out and join in the festivities along the Bardstown Road/Baxter Corridor. Ride along in the trolley or stroll up and down the street visiting the many shops and businesses that are a part of this annual celebration. This year, Santa returns in his new and improved sled known as the Pool Party Express, a restored 1950’s fire engine. He will arrive at 6 PM at Bearno’s for photo opportunities and a chance for the kiddos to give Kris Kringle their Christmas wish lists. The picture proceeds will benefit Gilda’s Club of Louisville. Every first Saturday in December marks Bardstown Road Aglow, as it has become one of the city’s most beloved holiday traditions. What started as a small idea has grown into a community festival as neighbors and visitors alike gather in the streets and shops of the one-of-a-kind Bardstown Road. Strollers along the corridor will be greeted with entertainment, shopping, food, carolers, drinks and plenty of Christmas cheer! Don’t be surprised to find an elf on your trolley ride or a bag piper along your evening trek. You may even be surprised to see your favorite business dressed up a little differently! Retailers and owners are encouraged to join in on a decorating contest as local TV personalities from WHAS 11 will serve as judges. Be sure not to miss out on one of Louisville’s favorite neighborhood traditions. Bardstown Road Aglow brings out the best of Christmas along its corridor’s many eateries, bars, galleries and boutiques. You may not find any Who Hash or the Abominable Snow Monster, but even Charlie Brown would have trouble not enjoying himself at this holiday celebration! The party lasts until 10PM, so don’t be late! Santa is watching!
