The World Cup is known for bringing the world into the homes of millions of avid soccer fans--whether you can make the trip to one of the 64 games to be held in Brazil or prefer to watch from a slightly more accessible location. With so many soccer-loving nations coming together this June and July, it’s hard not to think about all those utterly delectable cuisines being represented.
The foodie-minded among us might even be tempted to take a stab at cooking up something for yourself--but why take away valuable game-watching time? And when a renowned restaurant like
Louisville’s very own Monkey Wrench is offering a World Cup-inspired menu for the duration of the World Cup, beginning this Friday at noon (just in time for the Mexico v. Cameroon match), there’s just no need to cook.
The tasty offerings will include culturally-inspired dishes from ten of the countries playing in the World Cup this year, ranging from the fully traditional -- for example, the Argentinean grilled and sliced medium-rare skirt steak with chimichurri -- to the classic with a twist. Set to be served Monday, June 16, try the United States-inspired cast iron fried chicken with a touch of sophistication: sorghum syrup, elderberry jam and banana pepper aioli.
Other offerings will include traditional stuffed Piquillo peppers hailing from Spain, stuffed with dry chorizo, fresh herbs and creamy goat cheese; German fried sauerkraut balls with homemade mustard; and Brazilian croquettes made of black-eyed peas and served with shrimp. No matter what day you stop in, you won’t go hungry -- for either a tasty meal or for something new and unexpected.
The Monkey Wrench’s World Cup menu will be available all day, every day on World Cup game days with the exception of the first day, beginning Friday, June 13 at 12 p.m. through Sunday, July 13.
