This morning the International Association for the Study of Popular Music (IASPM)  began its yearly conference at the University of Louisville. They may be presenting papers today but tonight they will be rocking with the rest of us at The New Vintage for a show that the IASPM is presenting itself.

The show features 1200, Wussy and David Grubbs.

If you do not know 1200’s name yet, start now because he is one of the leaders of the rapidly growing hip hop scene in Louisville. Even more so, he is a classically trained percussionist who has a music education degree from UofL. His full stage show includes a DJ, keyboardist/guitarist and two singers. 1200 shows are shows you will remember.

Wussy, a four piece rock band from Cincinnati, is about 15 years old and always impressing. Most recently, Wussy was a part of Rye’s Back Porch Sessions. Their work has met with critical praise from Rolling Stone and SPIN, both of which gave the band's second and third albums four stars each. Wussy is currently touring behind their 2014 release Attica!, which drew some influence from The Who.

David Grubbs, a Louisville native, was a member of the groups Gastr del Sol, Bastro and Squirrel Bait. He is an academic himself, teaching at the Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College. The experimental singer-songwriter has released twelve solo albums and appeared on more than 150 commercially released recordings.

Tonight’s show at The New Vintage begins at 9 p.m. and is free for IASPM attendees and $8 for the general public.
