This week’s Louisville.com featured adoptable dog of the week is Parker, a male chocolate and white Border Collie/Lab mix. Parker is a great example of a dog who will be a stellar companion to someone who will put in a little time working with him so he understands what is expected. Working through a training/obedience program with your dog is one of the most rewarding experiences and the Animal Care Society is providing help with that for Parker’s new family.
From the Animal Care Society: “This handsome chocolate and white Border Collie/Lab mix certainly didn't plan on spending his first birthday in a shelter but, sadly, that's what happened. Adopted when he was around nine months old, the family returned Parker three months later citing that they were having trouble with getting Parker totally house-trained, he chased (though never hurt) their cat, and his leash manners needed a lot of work. Parker is friendly enough and can be downright enthusiastic with his affection but he tends to be a bit insecure at times. Some time with a trainer that has canine behavior experience would certainly benefit Parker and give his new owner the tools he/she needs to help Parker become a well-rounded, confident young dog.
His previous owners said that, although Parker loves other dogs, he might do better being an only dog. He certainly has enough love in his heart to give his new owners more than enough affection! Because we want Parker to be a well-balanced canine companion in a loving and committed lifetime home, we will be happy to provide a session with BarkBusters - a renowned in-home training organization that is well-respected worldwide - to Parker's new owner. It's not hard to fall in love with Parker because he's more than just a pretty face. He's got a beautiful and loving soul. Some dogs just need a little more time to mature and get the puppy sillies out of their system. All Parker needs is a little time and a patient, consistent, and understanding person to help him reach his full potential.
