Abbey Road on the River is this weekend. If you’re going, you’re probably not going to miss The Beach Boys or the other headliners, but who else should you make time to see? As a festival veteran, I’ve seen quite a few of these bands on multiple occasions. I’ve attended Abbey Road on the River every year since 2006, so rest assured that my advice is sound.
Here are 5 bands you definitely don’t want to miss:
1. BritBeat
Chicago-based BritBeat is by far one of my favorite Beatles tribute bands. I’ve covered their shows multiple times for Louisville.com. Their musical prowess coupled with their use of replica costumes and instruments makes for a very memorable show.
2. The Newbees
Husband and wife musical duo, Jeff and Misty Perholtz, started the Newbees in 2004. I’m always impressed with the talent and caliber of the musicians in the band, and their arrangements of Beatles’ songs are simply gorgeous.
3. The Jukebox
Hailing all the way from Puerto Rico, The Jukebox is another tribute band that sets the bar very high. I had seen them before, but they really caught my attention at February ’64 this year. I could definitely tell they had stepped up their game.
4. Nervous Melvin and the Mistakes
I hadn’t seen Nervous Melvin until February ’64, and I was surprised. This local band can certainly present outstanding vocals and excellent music!
5. Wingsbanned
It’s really nice to hear some of the Beatles' solo compositions in the midst of an all Beatles weekend. Since Paul is my favorite Beatle, Wingsbanned is right up my alley. If you love everything from "Jet" to "Maybe I’m Amazed," don’t miss them!
These are only a few of my favorite bands at Abbey Road on the River. There are so many more! For a full schedule, as well as ticket and hotel information, visit www.arotr.com.
Did I leave out your favorite AROTR band? If so, give them a shout out in the comments!
