Barbeque, bluegrass, bourbon and beer. That's the name of the game for the second annual B4 Derby Olympics hosted by The Kentucky Restaurant Association Louisville Chapter. Get ready for a day packed with food and fun completely open to the public (competitors pay a small entry fee per game.) This pre-Derby mini Olympics will take place on Tuesday, April 21 at ReSurfaced on Main Street in downtown Louisville.

The Games are held to celebrate those who work so hard in the restaurant industry as well as anyone who just wants to come to compete and have fun. With Derby being one of the busiest times of the year for the service and restaurant industry, this event is the perfect excuse to enjoy great food and drinks while throwing in some good ole fashion competition. The day will also include a BBQ sauce competition between local chefs, a cash bar, food for purchase, and live music featuring the Whiskey Bent Valley Boys.

Three competitions are lined up for the day, each requiring a $25 per person entry fee and advance registration. The competitions are as follows:

    • Bartender Mix-Off (Bartenders only): Local bartenders will be asked to make their best concoction using secret ingredients only to be revealed at the time of competition.  $25 per bartender
    • Brew Ha Ha (Two person relay): Pour two beers, jump on saddle on a keg strapped to a dolly and take a ride through the Brew Ha Ha obstacle course. $25 per person
    • Cork Toss Relay (Two person relay): Pop, pour, toss and run with your team through our obstacle wine course. $25 per person

A fourth event will be open to competitors all day long for $10 per person, and does not require advance sign-up.

    • Last Man Beer Standing (individual): Test your strength and see how long you can hold two beer steins. Longest time wins, male and female, and you get to drink your beer afterwards.

All the funds raised from the West Sixth Last Beer Man Standing Game will support APRON, an organization that provides temporary, limited financial relief to professional food and beverage industry workers experiencing financial distress due to illness, injury or other issues.
