It’s the week you’re most likely to hear “My Old Kentucky Home,” but have you ever heard it performed by a Chinese-American choir? This coming Wednesday, May 4, Chinese and Western entertainment will converge in the free, public “Concert on the Yangtze and Ohio Rivers” at the University of Louisville.
The concert will celebrate spring and diversity in Chinese and Western music and dance, according to Li Zeng, a classical and modern languages professor helping to organize the event. In addition to the aforementioned choral performance of the official song of the Kentucky Derby (and state song), there will be solo acts including a folk dance and a piano selection. Performers include community members as well as UofL students from Chinese language classes.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in Comstock Concert Hall, School of Music. Sponsors are the School of Music, classical and modern languages department, Modern Languages Fund, Crane House and the Organization of Chinese Americans-Kentucky chapter. For more information, contact Zeng, associate professor of Chinese studies, at 852-0493 or l0zeng01@louisville.edu.
