Malian musician Yaya Diallo leads an evening of music and dance Saturday, September 30 at 7:00 at the Wyatt Center for the Arts at Bellarmine University. Special guest performers include Djembe Kala, the “Day and Knight” Bellarmine hip-hop dance group and students from St. Francis of Assisi.

This year marks the seventh annual concert of this kind.

Diallo, who is also the founder of Farafina Donia, a school that promotes traditional culture in his native Mali, was named “Entertainer of the Year” by the African People’s International Awards. He specializes in the djembe, a goblet-shaped drum played with the hands, and also teaches World Music at Bellarmine. “[The concert] will be open to the entire community of Louisville,” Diallo says. “The music we will perform originates in Mali, Guinea and Africa in general.”

Admission is $10 for general admission, or $5 for students and children. For more information, visit or
