Out besting a field of phenomenal contestants, Centre College student and Louisville local, Julie Springate, captured the title of Miss Jefferson County 2012 in Louisville, KY on Saturday, October 15, 2011. Likewise, an incredible newbie to the Miss Division of the Miss America Organization, Brooke Powell of Winchester, KY captured the 2012 Miss Belle of Louisville title.
A former valedictorian of duPont Manual High School, now college sophomore, Julie continues to pursue her dreams of being a pediatrician and advocates a platform entitled, “Every Kid Counts: An opportunity for Achievement.” While attending duPont Manual, Julie completed over 2,500 volunteer hours locally for different organizations including Americana. Brooke currently attends George Rogers Clark High School and plans to major in Broadcast Journalism upon graduation this coming May. Her platform is entitled, "Straight from the Heart" - Raising Awareness of Heart Health. Brooke volunteers heavily with the American Heart Association through various outlets including raising $1,000 for Go Red for Women and speaking in local elementary schools about the importance of daily exercise.
Both ladies will be representing Louisville and Jefferson County this year through volunteer efforts and appearances throughout the community. They will also compete for the coveted title of Miss Kentucky this July, for a chance to represent Kentucky at the Miss America 2013 pageant.
