For those of you who don't know, Forecastle is - yes, a music festival - but is designed by JK McKnight to be so much more than that. According to forecastlefest.com, it's a music festival that is trying to establish a cultural entertainment medium equally showcased in a scenic, outdoor environment. It is meant to merge entertainment with education and unite the creative and activism communities of the Midwest.
Held on July 15th Halfway to Forecastle was described as a "mini-festival" that marks the halfway point to Forecastle. As you can see from the photos, there was nothing "mini" about it. Halfway to Forecastle 2011 was actually much bigger than Halfways of the past as the 2012 Forecastle will mark the 10-year anniversary of the Festival.
As for Halfway 2011's main attraction goes, here's what the Forecastle website has to say about Pretty Lights:
"Since his first appearance at Forecastle Festival in 2009, Derek Vincent Smith of Pretty Lights has become one of the hottest names in electronic music. Known for the use of vintage soul and R&B samples, his synth lines and hip hop beats have become a mainstay on the festival circuit. His high energy shows have been known to ignite crowds and thrill the senses with a mesmerizing combination of lights and sound."
