Aug. 21 and 22, gates open at 5:30 p.m., concerts start at 8 p.m.
Kentucky Horse Park
It's a bit of a drive, but as I'm making it, you might want to too. Horse park + picnic + Abba music = a trifecta for my wife. And as you can drink and my wife's pregnancy gives me a designated driver, this event is an exacta for me. The Lexington Philharmonic and ABBAMANIA are "recreating the classic hits of the Swedish pop group". There'll also be a table-decorating contest. General admission tickets are $10.

The Kentuckiana Celtic Fest's inaugural event features Ireland's Brendan Loughrey as well as six local acts in a free concert of Irish music. You can bring blankets and chairs, but no pets, food, booze or coolers (although food and drink will be available for purchase). The Kentuckiana Celtic Fest was founded to celebrate "All things Celtic," so ostensibly the eight-hour event will allow you to punch one of your nine brothers, throw up in your shoe and then sing a lament.
Main St. to 7th St.
Aug. 23, 4 p.m.
The American Legion sent me to Massachusetts's Boys State back in the day, educating me about government, excusing me from a week of school and causing the group to be my favorite veterans organization to this day. This parade kicks off the Legion's 91st Annual Convention, which is Aug. 23-27 in Louisville. It starts at the intersection of Main St. and Brook St., proceeds west on Main St. to the end of 7th St. at which point it'll bottom out in a raging block party.
